Are there NLP techniques to prepare for an important meeting or an NLP training? This is a question came in from a former student, asking what NLP techniques I personally use.
5 NLP techniques to prepare for an important meeting
NLP technique 1: stepping into someone else’s shoes
Float your brain into someone else’s shoes and imagine what they see, hear, and feel during a meeting. What specifically does this person want? Think, feel or believe? What is this person after? In relation to an NLP training, you could step into the shoes of the students you are about to meet with for instance, or the trainer.
NLP technique 2: determining the outcome of the meeting
What specifically is the outcome of the meeting that you are after? You need to make sure that this is stated in terms of what you do want, and not what you don’t want. It needs to be an appropriate chunk-size for what can be established in one meeting. Think about what you specifically are going to do to achieve the outcome of the meeting, not what you are going to make someone else do. For an NLP training, knowing what you are there for is an important factor, so you can make your day more focused and notice the right things when in that environment.
NLP technique 3: creating Movies in your mind (association and dissociation)
Imagine what you would see, hear, and feel during this meeting and play this like a movie in your mind. Then play the same movie, but now you see yourself like an actor or an actress in the movie; you can observe, study, and learn from this meeting free of any emotions. See the first movie again, the one in which you’re looking through your own eyes, but make adjustments based on the lessons learned. During an NLP training, I would actually recommend using this technique on the day you just had as well, paired with the day you are going to have tomorrow.
NLP technique 4: using a model of excellence
This is a variation of technique number 3, but instead of putting yourself in the movie, you imagine your role model or hero going to the meeting instead of yourself. You could, for instance, imagine Oprah Winfrey going to NLP Training, or someone in your personal world.
NLP technique 5: positive emotional state
Before any meeting I like to step into a positive emotional state, before I step into the room. You could think about a resourceful moment from your past and imagine what you saw, heard, and felt at that moment in time. Or you could imagine the end of the meeting, and what you would want to see, hear, and feel then. For NLP training, for instance, you could imagine what you would feel on certification day with your certification in hand and a toolbox full of NLP techniques.
